chds and the environment

chds and the environmentMaternal Obesity and Infant Heart Defects In a Swedish case-control study of 6,801 women who had infants with CHDs, a positive association was found between maternal obesity in early pregnancy and congenital heart defects in the offspring. The association between maternal obesity and VSDs (ventricular septal defects) and ASDs (atrial septal defects) reached statistical significance. A suggested explanation is undetected type 2 diabetes in early pregnancy, but other explanations may exist.
